《陰陽師おんみょうじ》の要旨
晴明は飲みながら、「それでは、世界で最も短い呪いはどのようなものですか。」と聞きました。
それは名前です。
晴明等のような名前です。
山、海、木、草、虫等、このような名前も一種の呪いなのです。呪いとは、端的に言うと束縛です。名前は、事物の根本的な姿形を束縛するもののひとつです。仮に、命名できないものがあるとするならば、それは無であるので、存在していないと言えるでしょう。
中には肉眼で見えないものもありますが、たとえ肉眼で見えなくても、名前で束縛されています。
例えば、男性が女性を素敵だと感じ、また女性もその男性を素敵だと感じることを、気持ちを表す呪いの言葉として「恋」と言います。しかし、仮に「恋」という名前がなくとも、男性は女性を素敵だと感じ、また女性は男性を素敵だと感じるでしょう。
私が命名するということは、即ち、呪いをかけるということです。
それは、愚かにも私の帰りを待っています。
例えば、あなたに夢中になっている女性がいたとして、あなたは呪いを通じて、連日昇る月を彼女に与えることができます。
あなたは月を指差しながら、「可愛いお嬢さん、あの月をあなたにプレゼントします。」と言い、もし、その娘が、「素敵だわ。」と答えるだけで、その月は彼女のものになるのです。
これは最も基本的な呪いです。

Let's put it in this way. What do you think of the shortest incantation of the world?
The shortest incantation is "names".
Just like your name is "Seimei"( 晴明 ).
For example, the mountains, the sea, the trees, the grass, the bugs and so on, the names of them are just like a kind of incantation. In short, incantation is like a kind of curse. You know that names are the bondage of the mortal things. If there are things which can't be named in the world, it can't be said that they are alive. That means they don't even exist at all.
Some things can't be seen. Even if they can't be seen, we still can use the names to tie them up.
Take this for example. When a man feels a woman is adorable, and the woman is fond of that man, we will say that they fall in love with each other. However, even though there is no word like "fall in love ", this man still feels that the woman is cute, and the woman still like this man.
If I had given something a name, and that means I would have put a curse on that thing.
This cursed thing must wait for me to come back for it.
If there is a woman who is indulged in you, you can even give her the moon in the sky by the means of incantation.
Only you need to do is to point to the moon and say, " My dear, I shall give the moon to you." If she replies, "Nice.", then the whole moon is hers.
The basic element of incantation is names.
In this world, everything is cursed by names.
