一般的に、別れ際(わかれぎわ)には、名残を惜しんで、その葉を摘み取ります。
中国語で、「別れに柳葉を摘み取る」と言います。

どんなにたくさんの別れを見ても
湖はまだ柳に恋していて、
そして、柳はずっと湖を撫でています。

The Farewell Willow Tree

Beside the lake is a willow tree, when people send off someone, they usually take a leaf off the willow tree as a token for the farewell. In Chinese, it is called "Picking Willow Leaves and Farewell".

No matter how much separation has been seen, the lake is still in love with the willow, and the willow is always stroking the lake.

折柳送別

湖邊有一棵柳樹,
送別的人會折下柳葉送給遠行的人,
中文叫做「折柳送別」。

不管見過多少離別,
湖水依舊愛戀著柳樹,
柳樹依然輕撫著湖面。
