The following is my translation of a poem by 夏宇 called "同日而語".

 

 

人は誰でも自分の文法を持って（いて）かまわないのです/持って（いて）いいのです。
それが順当というものです。
愛にそれ自体の「時制」があるように。
ときにはまるで獣のように。

各句読点はそれぞれの声をもっているように。
これは、生きる力です。
自由意志で
例えば、句点を円形とすることもできるし、
または気をつけないで汚したような黒い斑点でもいい。

文法クラスでは、
言葉を学ぶだけではなく、エッセイを書くことも学ぶように、
作文は一言でもいいのです。
人生がこのようにとてもシンプルならば、
シンプル過ぎて複雑です。

Grammar Class

People can have their own grammar;
this is fair.
Just like Love has its own tense,
yet sometimes it's ONLY a beast.

Each punctuation mark has its voice;
that is its instinct to survive
with its free will.
A period, for example, can be a circle,
or a black dot accidentally stained.

In the grammar class,
we learn not only vocabulary,
but writing composition that can be a single word, if you like.
However, if life is so simple
that it will become too complicated.

每個人都可以有自己的文法,
這是公平的。
像是愛也有牠的時態,
有時候只是一頭野獸。

每個標點符號都有自己的聲音,
這是生存的權力,
指揮自己意志。
像是句點可以是圈圈 ,

Don't you think
She is the right person to the morning?
Don't you think she is suitable for things
Such as
Running?
　
She is the right person to open the old biscuit box,
And reading the old, damp letters
She's like a cork,
Sealing a bottle of wine. Don't you think she is the right person to run around in a rush?
Over a splendid starry night.
She is the right person for strong will
She is also the right person to,.. take another one for example,
She is the right person to slip gracefully.

Don't you think she is erasable?
That kind of sketch which can be fixed over again,
However, her thumb comes out.

the warmth of the blanket in the early winter morning,
the autumn leaves falling on my shoulders,
the ice cream coolness at the summer beach,
the lush greenery and cultivated fields in the spring,
the clear, bright blue sky,

the raindrops in the sunshine,
the fragrance of the osmanthus in the alley,
the cats' footsteps on the roof,
the aroma of new books and coffee,
the mysterious smile on your face.

The following is my translation of 陳繁齊's Chinese poem. The stanza is quoted from that poem.

The Person With The Rain

Every day I will
Look in the mirror and check the smile,
To the woods, carve the promise we committed,
Talk with the footprints you have left,
Spend half a day reading your letter,
And then spend half a day to forget.

Nevertheless,
I'm still here,
I will be here,
Wait for love getting old
And wait for myself getting better.
