伝説によると、1306年、「ロバート・ザ・ブルース」という人はスコットランドのエドワード１世という王様に追われながら、３年という長い間、ある洞窟に避難していたことがあるのです。彼は戦争も負けたし、兄弟も死刑に処されたし、妹も逮捕されました。洞窟で、そばにいたのは一匹の蜘蛛のみでした。そして、この蜘蛛は強い風が吹く洞窟の入口に何遍失敗しても、巣を張りめぐらすことを繰り返しました。やがて、悪天候に勝って、勝利を成し遂げました。

Legend has it that in 1306, Robert the Bruce took shelter in a cave for three winter months, while being hunted by soldiers of King Edward I in Scotland.
Having suffered defeat in battle, seen his brothers executed and his sister captured, in the cave, he was accompanied only by a spider.
This spider attempted to spin its web across the mouth of the windy cave repeatedly. At last, its web weathered the storm.
"Nobody said it was fair."
