ハーブは寿命が短いし、樹木ほどの大きな存在感もないかもしれません。それでも、彼らは私たちにハーブならではの知恵をもたらしてくれます。時には、ワンシーズンだけ成熟し、花を咲かせ、種をこぼすものがありますが、ハーブは私たちに命の儚さを思い出させます。 ....現在行われている努力が、次の多くの世代のために未来の可能性を芽生えさせることができます.....植物は、時間とスペースが許すなら、種から育てるようにしてください。なぜなら、植物の世話をする事が彼らと心を通(かよ)わすことができる素晴らしい方法の一つであるからです。同様に、もし貴方が野生のハーブを見つけたら、時間をかけて、自己紹介し、それから彼らと繋がって下さい。（p.9）

Herbs

While herbs may not have the longevity or large presence of trees, they bring us a wisdom all their own. With sometimes only a single season to mature, flower, and go to seed, herbs remind of us of the temporary nature of life. ....Efforts made now can seed future possibilities for generations to come.....consider growing them from seed if space and time allow, as tending to plants is a fantastic way to commune with them. Similarly, when finding herbs in the wild, take time to introduce yourself and connect with the plant. (p.9)
